Oyster 3G is our core femtocell technology, used by OEMs (to integrate a WCDMA femtocell into home gateways, set-top boxes and other home devices) and system integrators (offering the essential components for an end-to-end femtocell solution for mobile operators).

Oyster 3G delivers high-quality 3G spectrum into the home. It reduces the cost of delivering services by using the customer’s broadband for backhaul, and creates extra capacity in your macro network, improving service for everyone in the cell, indoors or out.

Oyster 3G technology is used (as part of a Cisco solution) in one of the world’s largest femtocell deployment – the AT&T 3G MicroCell in the US – and is behind nano3G™, our own end-to-end solution for more targeted deployments.

We’ve led the field in femtocell technology from the very beginning and have solved the toughest challenges – everything from RRM algorithms to handover and access control to zero-touch provisioning.

The Oyster 3G Access Point 

Award-winning hardware reference design and software

The Oyster 3G Access Point design lets you create a tiny, consumer-friendly 3G base station optimised for the home. It’s a low-cost, high performance W-CDMA femtocell delivering voice and HSPA services while improving capacity in the entire cell.

The reference design supports a standalone unit with an Ethernet interface to the user’s broadband connection. The Oyster 3G Access Point can also be embedded into other residential gateway products, (e.g. ADSL or Cable/WiFi Routers).

Based on market leading silicon the Oyster 3G femtocell is software upgradeable in the field to be compatible with the latest W-CDMA and IP network features.

Oyster 3G technology is not only for femtocell access points. ip.access can also provide other many of components and services needed to create a 3G femtocell access network:

• Access Controller (AC)– the Femto Gateway that handles and routes all traffic between the APs and your core network.
• Element Management System (EMS)– manages the controller and all Access Points with full OAM&P capability including reporting, alerting and KPIs.
• Expert Services– including integration consulting, solution & business design, network planning, deployment, operations, maintenance and training.
