Smartphones blamed for mobile broadband demand

The strain that is being placed on mobile networks in regions like western Europe can be blamed primarily on smartphone devices, it has been highlighted.

Writing in a piece for Wireless Week, a writer from the Yankee Group has noted that smartphones seem to be the main cause of network issues in markets which are more developed.

"Most of the damage is done by apps that constantly poll the network for new information," they have commented.

The writer has also noted in the Wireless Week article that it was not just femtocell developers who were keen to talk about the growing use of mobile broadband during the recent Mobile World Congress 2010 (MSW 2010) event, but also firms specialising in OSS.

Dongles are an additional cause of mobile broadband strain in some parts of the world, the commentator added.

Writing for Reuters, Tarmo Virki and Nicola Leske recently noted how MSW 2010 saw the issue of rising mobile data usage widely discussed.ADNFCR-2406-ID-19634870-ADNFCR
