Having access to the right technology at home can make an employee as effective as they are in the office, according to Blue Coat Systems.
It is in the interest of businesses that employees have the network performance capabilities available to them to work remotely, claims the firm's marketing vice-president of Europe, the Middle East and Africa Nigel Hawthorn.
Femtocells can help to enhance mobile device 3G signals in the home as well as in the office, providing a reliable connection where signal strength may otherwise be unreliable.
He was commenting following the London tube strike which disrupted commuter travel to and from work for two days, leaving many organisation's short on workforce.
Mr Hawthorn said: "In my industry, working from home is already common practice it provides benefits for both the employee and the employer."
Having the right equipment "can make employees just as effective outside the office as within", he added.
Half of businesses claim to have plans in place to cope with disruptions, according to a survey carried out by the Chartered Management Institute in March.
