Rate of Chinese 3G adoption 'higher than expected'

29th January 2010 09:05:44

The number of 3G users based in regions of China has increased at a rate that was quicker than originally expected, an expert has noted.

China Daily reports TD-SCDMA Alliance's secretary general Yang Hua as saying that it was the final three month period of 2009 that really saw 3G start to grow in popularity.

He told the news provider that he did not anticipate such a high level of adoption because "it often takes eight to ten months for the telecom operator to finish its network deployment".

Meanwhile, commenting in the same China Daily article, the GFK analyst Pang Jun has estimated that the year 2010 could see the number of people accessing 3G services in China rise to 170 million.

Earlier in January, website 3g.cn pointed out the increasing appetite that people in China have when it comes to accessing the internet using mobile devices.ADNFCR-2406-ID-19587354-ADNFCR
