O2's chief technology officer has outlined the commitments that are being made by his company to match people's penchant for mobile data use.
Derek McManus noted that his firm is aiming to stay ahead of the growing volume of data usage that is being seen in the UK.
He commented: "Outside London, where network quality is shown to be strong, we continue to scale our investment and have committed to deliver a further 1,500 new sites by the end of this year."
The expert made his remarks following the publication of SIRODA research into mobile data speeds.
On average, O2 was found to provide London-based mobile data users with the quickest web page access last month, when compared with other operators.
Smartphones are one factor that is likely to be increasing people's mobile internet usage.
IDC recently announced that last year saw around 174.2 million such devices shipped across the world.
