A number of data offloading solutions are likely to be showcased at the Mobile World Congress this week, a commentator has highlighted.

Writing in an article for Fierce Broadband Wireless, Lynnette Luna has noted the potential importance of such devices caused by the recent rise in mobile data traffic.

Ms Luna pointed out that a growing number of people are viewing videos online, which may be taking its toll on networks.

She commented in her Fierce Broadband Wireless piece: "Operators globally are beginning to groan under the strain, thanks to web-friendly smartphones of all kinds."

While the femtocell is one type of product that is likely to be touched upon during the Mobile World Congress 2010 event, Ms Luna believes that developments relating to a variety of other data offloading technologies are also likely to feature.

IDC recently predicted that smartphone shipments are likely to reach record levels this year.ADNFCR-2406-ID-19616620-ADNFCR
