Irish telecoms operator Meteor will be looking much more closely at femtocells as a means of improving indoor mobile coverage in blackspots.
Speaking to Mobile News, director of product development at the firm Elaine Robinson said she has plans to meet with femtocell vendors to discuss possibilities for the devices, which will improve coverage in remote areas.
She told the magazine: "I will personally be looking in much more depth at femtocells, something there has been a lot of hype about."
Ms Robinson added that the telecoms operator is particularly keen to bolster coverage across its 3G network.
Incorporation of femtocell technology into specialist applications is also getting easier with the launch of products such as the 3G Femtocell Developer Kit by vendor ip.access.
Launching the product earlier this month, ip.access chief executive officer Stephen Mallinson explained that the kit is a means of expanding the scope of the technology by making it easier for partners to incorporate ip.access' Oyster 3G technology into their own products.
