Femtocell investments could deliver large returns for operators

Mobile network operators may see large returns if they are willing to invest in femtocell deployments, according to new research.
The results of a Signals Research Group (SRG) study, revealed by the Femto Forum, have shown that it might be possible for operators to benefit from returns ten times as large as their initial femtocell expenditure if they opt for the likes of dual-mode LTE/HSPA devices.
It has been confirmed that the Femto Forum is to use the forthcoming Mobile World Congress 2010 event to reveal the complete details of the report.
SRG's wireless economics VP J Randolph Luening believes that femtocells can provide operators with a solution to mobile data demand.
He commented: "Femtocells - strategically placed - offer the operator a powerful tool to contain escalating network costs and to significantly enhance the end user experience."
IDC recently revealed that this year could see a new record set when it comes to the volume of smartphones shipped out.
